Master project

The program for the master of science in Stochastics and Financial Mathematics is concluded by a research project or an external project to be carried out within a business, industry or research facility other than the department of Mathematics. The following rules apply:

• The research project and the external project require equivalent of six months of full time work. This includes the master thesis.
• A student will only be allowed to start the project or the external project if all other obligations are met. If only one other part of the exam has to be finalized, then the supervisor may allow the student to begin with the work on the research project or the external project. If more remains to be done, then only with explicit concent of the Examinations Board the work may be started on the project.
• The project will be finished with a written (the master thesis) and an oral presentation of the results.

To find a suitable research project or external project, one is advized to ask help from ones mentor. Moreover the 'stagebureau' of the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science of the VU can be of help.
