Systems Biology (specialization)

The programme in a nutshell

Students can choose to complete their programme either with a more theoretical focus on the computational aspects of systems biology and on bioinformatics, or with a more experimental training relevant to systems biology. However, all students will be provided with a programme that guarantees cross-over to such an extent that the succesful student can communicate with his colleagues irrespective of his focus on experimental or computational disciplines.

The full Master’s programme takes two years and is worth 120 ECTS. The programme consist of the following elements:

Compulsory courses

  • Introduction to Systems Biology (6 ECTS)
  • Basic Models of Biological (6 ECTS)
  • Systems Biology in Practice (12 ECTS)
  • Biosystems Data Analysis (6 ECTS)
  • Advanced Modeling in Systems Biology (6 ECTS)
  • iGEM Grant Application (6 ECTS)

Optional courses

  • Programming in R (6 ECTS)
  • Structural Bioinformatics (6 ECTS)
  • Bioinformatics of Large Systems (6 ECTS)

Formative academic skills

  • History of science OR Biomolecular Sciences & Business Innovation (Compulsory, 3 ECTS)
  • Ethics (Compulsory, 3 ECTS)
