Visa requirements
Housing
Furnished single rooms can be reserved in one of our student dorms with shared shower and toilet. Please note, that the number of available rooms and apartments is limited, so accommodation cannot be guaranteed for everyone. Nevertheless, VU Amsterdam will do its utmost to find suitable accommodation for new arrivals. A room reservation form will be sent to you after you have been admitted to one of our Master programmes and payment of the guarantee deposit (see Application procedure for students with an international preliminary education).
Living costs
The Dutch Immigration Office expects students to proof sufficient means of income, which is at least € 765 per month for living expenses. We estimate that students will need at least € 800 per month for housing, insurance, transports, books and food. A student insurance costs € 40,- per month.
Health insurance
It is imperative to have a health insurance. A health insurance can be arranged by Vrije Universiteit.
Dutch language course
The Department of Dutch as a Second Language offers various courses for those wishing to learn Dutch, one of which is the ERASMUS course. These courses are meant for everybody who has received an education at secondary or academic level. Knowledge of English is required.
