Classes are on ** Tuesdays, 14:00-16:45, **in room 611 of the Utrecht Math building and consist of two 45 minute lectures and one 45 minute exercise session. The first lecture will take place on September 4.

For this course we shall make use of the book "Dynamical Systems - second ed." by Clark Robinson. In particular, we will treat chapters V, VII, VIII (sections 1-4) and X. The first half of the course (i.e. roughly chapters V and VII) will be taught by Bob Rink and the second half (i.e. roughly chapters VIII and X) by Ale Jan Homburg.

Your final grade for this course will depend on two personal and written hand-in assignments, each of which counting for 25%, and a written exam, worth 50%.

Practical information concerning covered material, excercises, hand-ins and the exam, will appear on this site.

**4 Sept: **We discussed Section 5.3 pp. 142-146 (halfway) in class, as well as Section 4.7 (except the proof of Theorem 7.1). You are invited to read Sections 5.1 and 5.2 at home: these sections contain important background material that you should have seen in undergraduate courses. Excercises for this week are: 5,5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.9, 5.10, 5.15 and the following extra assignment: try to find a homeomorphism that conjucates the 2D linear differential equations dx/dt = -x, dy/dt = -y and dx/dt = -x, dy/dt = -2y.

**11 Sept:** In class we discussed Sections 4.5, 4.7 and 5.5 (pp. 151-156). New exercises for this week are 20, 21 and 22 from Chapter. I advise also to take a look at exercises 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Chapter IV.

**18 Sept: **I discussed Section 5.7 in class. New exercises are 12 13, 17, 23, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 35, 38, 40. Obviously, these are too many to finish in one week.

**25 Sept: **Sections 5.4, 5.5.0, 5.5.3, 5.8.0, 5.8.1 and 5.9 were discussed in class. Please read Section 5.6 yourself.

The 1st set of **HAND-IN EXERCISES **can be found here. They are due during class on **October 16**.

**Oct 2: **Today we have discussed Section 5.10. New exercises are 5.44 and 5.46.

**Oct 9:** Today we discussed Sections 1, 2 and 3 of Chapter VII. Relevant exercises are 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5.

**Oct 16:** Today I covered Section 4 of Chaper VII. Exercises are 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9.

This was my last lecture. The remaining part of this course will be given by Ale Jan Homburg. Relevant information will from now on be posted on his website.
