About me

I am a postdoc in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. You may find more information on the research page on this site. This website is pretty empty so, if you miss something, you are very welcome to contact me ;-)

Interests

My research interests are around decentralised knowledge systems and heuristic-based reasoning. A example of decentralised knowledge system is a set of computers providing semantic data. Those computers are assumed to be able to talk to each other (network connection) although they may not be aware of the existence and be connected to all of their peers (pure P2P system). Within that context, several problems related to querying and data integration have to be addressed: How to find relevant information ? How to make the different systems compatible on the schema level ?

As for the heuristic-based reasoning, the setting is different and does not necessarily implies a network. One or more semantic dataset (such as an RDF file) and a reasoning task (query answering) are the common context elements. Then, the problem is to use techniques inspired by nature phenomenon/behavior patterns (evolutionary algorithms, swarm computing, …) to create algorithm to be used as alternative to the traditional, usually DB-oriented, techniques. Expectation are to take advantage of the features (robustness, anytime, …) of nature-inspired optimisation techniques.
