- 17/6/2011: serious conversations
Please read this mail carefully!
Since I will be leaving soon, it is important that we discuss/settle how to deal with
grading. As I indicated, already a number of times, I want to finalize grading both
the NM2 and CA3 course the 1th of july (1/7/2011).
As I will further motivate below, next monday (20/6/2011) in the first part of the afternoon, that is from 13.45-14.45, I want to have a serious conversation of about 5-10
minutes to get an update of the state of your projects, for all projects listed in:
sites.google.com/site/create10nm2/student-contribution-s
preferably with all members of the group(s), and to be clear group by group, in the order
as listed. And unless Gerrit decides otherwise, the results from this conversation will
be decisive for grading. But read a more detailed explanation below.
Unfortunately many groups are not yet ready with their NM2 projects,
and for CA3 the time may be too limited to complete all the projects before that
day. However, for the CA3 course I am happy to judge based on proposals as
presented in the sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/student-contribution-s
and your portfolios, as well as your essays of course.
For NM2, I am willing to take your promises and, being in an optimistic mood,
have good faith in your willingness to keep those promises.
Of course, also here, your essays and proposals must be ready in time.
Below you will see the comments Tom sent me. I have also received comments of Jan-Willem, and I sent the kinect group a mail to contact Jan-Willem.
For those working on a nano-project, what Tom writes is important, in particular
because all projects are expected to give a presentation of their work for the faculty (EWI)
community, to communicate their work. So your contribution is of great importance!
=== the text is in dutch, so for the non-dutch speaking ask the help of others! ==
Mijn collega heet Sander Smits. S.M.Smits (at) utwente.nl.
Bij onze opendag in september willen we graag als leerstoel het werk van deze 5 groepen laten zien. Ik hoop dus dat dit gaat lukken, anders is er veel werk verloren gegaan en dat zou jammer zijn!!
=============== end of Tom's message =========================
For the (little prince) group, do not worry about the negative comments,
because based on the essays of both Sabrina and Isa, as well as the comments in the
peer reviews, I have good confidence in your perspective and hopeful about the results,
even if it might need a lot of self-confidence to get these accepted.
Hopefully, the issues about grading for NM2 and CA3 have been clarified by this
email, and I propose to deal with any remaining questions coming monday.
To be clear, the morning session will be spent on writing a manifesto,
which will be presented at the end of the afternoon session, after the serious conversations!
- 13/6/2011: portfolio(s)/contribution(s)
It is not easy to keep track of what you are doing, and so it
is of the utmost importance that you update your individual portfolios,
and make your participation in a group project known at
sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/student-contribution-s
Also, I must again bring to you attention that the ultimate deadline
for both NM2: interactive visualization and CA3: have fun and play!
is 27/06/2011. All the work, as indicated in, respectively:
CA3: sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/grading-requirement-s
NM2: sites.google.com/site/create10nm2/grading-requirement-s
If anything is missing, or can not be found in your portfolio,
this will very likely mean no grade.
As I have repeatedly mentioned, this is the only and final deadline.
so that grading can be finalized by the 1st of july.
If you do not meet it, for one reason or another, I have to refer you to
Gerrit van de Hoeven, who may refer you to someone else, to obtain a grading.
So, I repeat, update your portfolio(s) and try to make clear what your contributions
were and why you consider your work to be ready for grading!
And, if anything is unclear or when you have any questions, do not hesitate to bring
these up next monday, 20 june, one week before the deadline.
- 01/06/2011: progress
next monday 6 june, Kees and Viola will be present in the afternoon session,
from 14.00-15.00 to look at your proposals and discuss the requirements
for gogbot.
In the morning session I want, after some theoretical considerations, to start
working on the presentation(s), focussed on your (group) contributions for gogbot,
including the formation of project groups.
For those who already proposed an interesting idea in the session of 4 april,
you may further work on these and put (copy, paste & adapt) them in the
presentation for the 6th of june, see
sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/collaboration-s
Some new ideas came around too, such as the info rain proposed by Vesso.
And I would like to see such an idea realized as an extension to Siewart's (kinect) ghost wall if that would be possible.
For the presentation on the 6th of june in the afternoon, you are NOT
limited to the common (google) presentation. You may also prepare your own
powerpoint of prezi or whatever, and already include a project description
(members + site) in, what else:
sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/student-contribution-s
- 23/05/2011: email -- 11/28+ googlification(s)
in sites.google.com/site/create10ca3/what-is-the-impact-of
you will see the first reflections of (11 out of 28 students present in the morning session).
Please add your reflection as well, which gives you a great opportunity to]
re-vitalize your blog(s)!
Those not on the presence list are marked with ?
see www.cs.vu.nl/~eliens/create/participant-ca3.html
and the blog entries are indicated with: [B]
I have set up two new presentations for the following weeks.
Of course you may start working at these anytime!
