Mission: Explore the Half-Life 2 Game Platform and the Hammer editor and extend the common knowledge about it by documenting the explorations
Goal: Creating a Level for hl2 with the Hammer editor that contains several objects that have simple shader effects applied to them.
Idea 1: creating a virtual gallery in which the first assignments of Visual Design are displayed along with objects displaying shader effects. If more people like this idea, the seperate achievements can be combined into one level, containing a virtual gallery of those persons' works. Idea 2: Creating a level with a ferry-tale like landscape, using colorful moving objects (giving the illusion of a 'living' landscape). The objects are colored and animated by shaders (this would also be a good idea to try cel- / toonshading in).
Work So Far: Installed the Hammer editor at home, started searching for some information. Came up with two ideas (see above). (Right now I am preparing my presentation, so not much time spent on the final project yet)
The idea is to take a music video as basis and than create our own video clip around it using geometry in the HL2 engine. The interaction will be in the form that a user can slightly manipulate te surrounding geometry (e.g. squares in stead of shperes). This way the user has control over the music video.
So far we've looked at the Hammer editor and tried a simple tutorial.
Progress
Work done : . Set up the HALF-LIEF2 Development enviroment. . Learn the HALF-LIFE2 Hammer tools.
Work TODO : . Model the bedroom. . Design the texture. . Decorate the room like the painting. . Finish the 3D bedroom. . Render the room using Cel-Shaded techonology.
