PANORAMA: From Ambient Intelligence to Social Awareness
Awareness within work environments should not be seen limited to only the
important work-related information, activities and relationships. Mediating
somewhat casual and more engaging encounters related to non-work acts could
also lead to more meaningful and pleasurable experiences. PANORAMA Project
explores different approaches to support mediated social awareness within
work environments. PANORAMA is an intelligent, interactive, artistically
inspired large screen display in the staff room of our Computer Science
department, which attempts to mediate non-critical, non-work related
information about the staff-members in an engaging manner to enhance social
awareness within the department. The PANORAMA system transforms implicit and
explicit inputs from the staff members into an artistic representation to
display the contextual information for supporting engagement, exploration
and playfulness. The PANORAMA Project uses the 'intelligence' aspect to
focus on broader issues to support more valuable and personally meaningful
experiences.
