The main theme of ECCE-13 is trust and control in complex socio-technical systems, including of course also single human-computer systems within larger systems. The horizons of cognitive ergonomics are expanding. With distributed and highly-interconnected systems, the control of these systems becomes ever more demanding. Can the controllability of systems still be secured in technology design? Does trust have to (partially) replace control and what consequences does that have on the distribution of responsibility for the correct and safe functioning of socio-technical systems? How can the coordination requirements and the management of uncertainty in systems with multiple human and artificial actors be better supported? The conference seeks to encourage dialogue among the diverse disciplines contributing to studies of the psychological, social and cultural aspects of technology use or technology design. Submissions in the form of papers, posters and panels addressing theoretical, empirical or methodological issues around this theme are welcome. Submissions could, for example, relate to the design and use of technology in the following contexts: work, education, safety-related and complex work systems, leisure, home. Issues that bridge human factors and design concerns such as usability, user experience, emotion, dependability and acceptability are welcome. All submissions will be refereed by the international programme committee. The working language of the conference will be English. Note: After the conference the proceeding will be included in the ACM online library. Time and Place of ECCE-13 ECCE-13 take place between 20th and 22nd September 2006 in Zürich, Switzerland (for further detail look in the programm section) Important dates Final deadline for abstracts: Mai 31 th 2006 Submissions New category! Short papers (4 pages in the proceedings): Please send an abstract of about 500 words. Other categories a) Long papers (8 pages in the proceedings): Please send an extended abstracts of about 1000 words. b) Posters (2 pages in the proceedings): Please send an abstract of about 300 words. c) Panels (8 pages in the proceedings per paper and 4 pages summary): Please send a 500 word overview and 500 word abstracts for each presentation in the panel session. All submissions should be sent electronically. The authors of all accepted submissions will be asked to prepare full manuscripts, which will be published in the conference proceedings. Information about submitting accepted full manuscripts Publication format for camera-ready manuscripts The Proceedings of ECCE 13 are the records of the conference. We hope to give the book a single, high-quality appearance. To do this, we ask that authors follow some simple guidelines. The easiest way to do this is simply to download the ECCE 13 template file with the information about publication format and replace the content with your own material. Download the template: ECCE13template.doc EACE and ACM Permission and Release Form To be able to include the work in the Proceedings and the ACM digital Library, authors have to sign the EACE and ACM Permission and Release Form and send two copies to the conference secretary. The easiest way to do this is simply to download the "EACE_ACM release form" from below. Download the template:EACE_ACM release form-1.doc Please sent camera ready manuscripts plus 2 copies of the EACE and ACM Permission and Release Form to the conference secretary: Jacqueline Hohermuth (jhohermuth@ethz.ch)
