PRIMA-2009 Experiments

Tic-Tac-Toe

This application presents an affective virtual agent that can play tic-tac-toe against the user. The object of tic-tac-toe is to get three in a row on a three by three game board. You play on a three by three game board. Players alternate placing X’s and O’s on the game board until one of the players has three in a row, or all nine squares on the board are filled, which means the game ends in a tie. For creating the virtual agent, we used Haptek’s peopleputty software.

To test the application, the behavior of the agent has been tested under various parameter settings. For example in

experiment Agent 1   »   agent tries to win
experiment Agent 2   »   agent deliberately tries to lose
experiment Agent 3   »   agent decides whether it wants to win based on its money
experiment Agent 4   »   agent is too involved with the user to win
experiment Agent 5   »   agent is balanced, and wins sometimes, and loses sometimes

  • You need to install Haptek Player to run this application. By clicking on one of the agents, your computer will automatically ask you to start the installation process. To see the agent working, the installation of Haptek Player needs to be completed.
  • The voice of the agent may differ from computer to computer depending upon the speech engine selected when installing Haptek Player. This might cause the female agent to have a male voice.
