Part of my job is to coordinate, and sometimes supervise, Bachelor and Master projects of our group. If you are interested in doing a project in our group, have a look at the research areas our group is involved in described below. I can also provide the necessary technical supervision of a literature study in these research areas.
Please contact me for more information.
Note that Bachelor projects are subject to a strict schedule, that can be followed twice a year. Because the areas of interest for our research projects can change rapidly, we only formulate Bachelor projects near the start dates of these projects. See here for more details.
The grid computing group at the VU performs research in the area of programming environments, adaptivity to network conditions, and remote data visualization for the grid. Our research is tightly integrated into many international and national efforts like:
Learn more about Ibis on the Ibis homepage, and then have a look at the projects page.
The SAGA Research Group at OGF strives to define a high level API for developers of Grid Applications. Instead of interfacing directly to Grid Services, the applications can so access basic Grid Capabilities with a simple, consistent and stable API. (Learn more about SAGA here.) Our group is strongly involved in the SAGA developments. Part of these efforts are open to students who would like to contribute via a thesis project.
For possible topics about SAGA, please contact Thilo Kielmann.
As part of the Scalp project our group is developing a programming environment for high-performance embedded multimedia platforms such as the Philips SpaceCAKE architecture and the IBM/Sony Cell architecture. See a separate list for student projects.
The XtreemOS project aims at investigating and proposing new services that should be added to current operating systems to build Grid infrastructure in a simple way. XtreemOS targets the well-accepted open source operating system Linux by extending it to the Grid with native support for virtual organizations and large numbers of neds. For possible topics within XtreemOS, please contact Guillaume Pierre.
