Research Project - Agent Models of Functional
State in Demanding Circumstances
When people interact with the environment, errors
are inevitable. This is even more apparent when people are working in
dynamic industries (e.g. air traffic control or naval warfare) as such
tasks often entail negative effects on a human’s functional state (i.e.
workload, exhaustion, attention), leading to a decrease in performance
quality. Especially in high demanding circumstances this can have
disastrous consequences. My PhD project explores the influence of
cognitive factors on the human functional state in demanding tasks and
it aims at predicting performance by the design of agent models.
Furthermore, ambient systems that support humans in their interaction
with the environment are investigated. The agent systems that are used
in this project use cognitive models to analyze a human’s current
cognitive state and provide adequate support accordingly, which
improves performance, thereby decreasing human error.
