Postdoc Position in Number Theory (2+ Years)


As part of the NWO Vidi-project New Diophantine directions of Sander Dahmen, a postdoc position in number theory is available at the Department of Mathematics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Candidates with a PhD in Mathematics (or related field) and a background in one or more of the areas Diophantine equations/rational points, Galois representations, and computational number theory/arithmetic geometry are welcome to apply. Furthermore, some experience in using proof assistants, e.g. Lean, or the motivation to acquire that, will be considered a big plus. Next to conducting research (which is the main focus), the position also involves a small amount of teaching.

Starting date

Flexible, ranges from 1 September 2020 till 1 January 2021.


The initial appointment will be for a period of 1 year and can be extended (when mutually agreed) for at least one more year; possibly till 1 January 2023 (regardless of the starting date).

Salary etc.

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2790 and a maximum of €4402, based on a full-time employment and depending on your education and experience.
