De doelstelling van het college is (mede) de complementariteit tussen authoring en information retrieval duidelijk te maken. Complementariteit betekent in deze situatie dat authoring en retrieval op elkaar afgestemd moeten zijn. In het college wordt bijvoorbeeld content annotation besproken als een middel om information retrieval mogelijk te maken.
Op het tentamen moet je, uitgaande van je practicum werkstuk, aangeven wat voor annotaties noodzakelijk zijn om de informatie in je presentatie, voor bijvoorbeeld een zoekmachine, beschikbaar te maken.
