Dialogs in Virtual Environments

abstract

Virtual worlds offer a rich environment to present information using 3D graphics and dynamic media such as audio and video. Nevertheless, the use of written or spoken text will remain an important vehicle for conveying information. In particular, when the user must be addressed directly, as in (e-commerce) trading or socila marketing, explicit textual information is essential for 'getting the message accross'.

In this paper, we will look at the design criteria for effectively presenting information in media-rich virtual environments. For our exploration we have developed a template for presenting dialogs to a visitor or user, and we investigate what parameters affect the users reception of the primary subject of a particular dialog. ... etcetera ...
