048624258752A1HF301GDIJ6T922005-03-02Simply AmazingAlthough this book is not really "modern" anymore, I found it to be the most comprehensive and helpful book on coin magic that I have ever read. It gives detailed illustrations and step by step instructions (unlike some other books) and is well worth the effort. I definitely reccomend this book as a great buy, especially if you have been looking around on the internet for some coin magic that you can easily learn. There really is no website, but this is a great buy at a great price. Definitely buy this book, whether you are a novice magician or an expereienced one.048624258742A2QFNSAPNXD5K632005-01-07Good Illustrations, Clear TextModern Coin Magic is a complete course in coin manipulation. The illustrations are clearly drawn and plentiful. The text covers many slights, including gimmicks. This book is a keeper.048624258753AGCYKX5110FXR32004-07-15Grand-daddy of all coin magic booksThis book is older than Joan Rivers but has aged much more gracefully. Slieght of hand coin magic just really doesn't change over time and this is the motherload for learning coin magic. If this is a side of magic that interests you than do yourself a favor, read and learn. You can learn these tricks just from this book because of the excellent drawings but it will take practice like any skill.048624258743A59ZQPBIKTEGZ42004-04-14Incredible resourceThis book contains page after page of techniques and tricks. As the other reviews have pointed out, it is outstanding and sets the standard for books on coin magic. The only negatives are the quaint chapters on sleeving and cuffing, which date the book. However, I have found gem after gem while combing through the pages. The price definitely makes this essential.Book Description
The most complete treatise on sleight-of-hand coin conjuring, including best traditional methods and modern innovations. This flash drive is great in terms of ease of use and durability. I've seen several flash drives out there that look like flimsy sticks, but corsair's design is freakin' sweet (meaning you shouldn't be able to accidentally break or crush it). It comes with a 10 year warranty, which shows they care about the quality of their product. The flash drive is supposedly water resistant, but I don't want to loose my data in order to verify that theory.

If you live on a university like me, you find the drive works well with any machine you can throw at it. Windows XP has no problem recognizing the device, but I've yet to try it on OSX. As far as software goes, it gets the job done if you do basic things like me. The software has the ability to partition the flash drive into two disks so you can have one partition encrypted and the other not encrypted. That way if you use a machine with out the corsair software no one can access your data and even if they try then it is password protected. The software is pretty limited to those modes of functionality and I can see users complaining about having something that manages their files/photos/whatever for them. However, if you want something that works and isn't skittish then check out this gem.
That is the only issue I found.
B0006FS2IQ42A3PU146DOV1PYR22006-04-04Happy With Purchase
After researching various capture cards, I decided to go with this one, as the ATI cards seemed buggy and the other Hauppauge cards were out of my price range. Overall I am satisfied with this product.

Initially, I followed the advice of a video help website and avoided using the software that came with the card, and opted instead to install the newest drivers and programs found on the website. This was a mistake. After hours of hassle, I decided to give the CD a try, and it made the card work.

Video quality meets my needs. The card seems to be rather incompatible with programs that capture in AVI format (notably Virtualdub), although I have been able to configure VirtualVCR to capture in a variety of AVI compressions. However, I may opt to capture in MPEG format using the software provided - it looks pretty good, and you can capture in a variety of MPEG formats (MPEG-2 for straight to DVD, or lower levels of quality for size and editing considerations).

The card comes with software that allows you to easily edit your captured MPEGs (like for cutting out commercials). It also comes with a program that allows you to schedule future recordings ala Tivo, which is very neat.

I have not yet hooked the card up to a VCR, although I plan on eventually backing up my home movie collection to digital media with this card.

Overall, I recommend this card.

The performance of this card is poor at best. Some channels that are fine on my TV are either snowy or have ghosts, and also the sound is either broken up or non existent on these channels. A search on a dedicated newsgroup turned up numerous complaints on these issues but no fix. Tech support at Happauge does not respond to my e-mails except for an automated reply with a link to the newsgroup. I strongly suggest checking out the newsgroup before you buy this pig.

The very fact that Brian De Palma directed this film is a signal that this film is of a very high standard. Before Carlito's way he'd already directed Scarface, Carrie, The Untouchables, Casualties of War, and many many more, but this film with the possible exception of Scarface is, in my opinion, his best work.
The film depicts the life of a former Puerto Rican drug lord Carlito Berganzi (Al Pacino) from the moment his appeal is succesful and he is released from a 30 year prison sentence after serving only 5 years. Carlito pledges to keep his hands clean of any criminal activities...but Carlito sitting at home watching Trisha and drinking tea simply didn't cut it with the filming commission so instead he gets dragged down into the underworld yet again, mostly by his cocaine-addicted lawyer David Kleinfeld (Sean Penn), whilst the opposing force in Carlito's life, Gail (Penelope Ann Miller) tries desperately to pull him back to a normal, crime-free life.

The film is beautifully shot and there is no moment in the film, ever, when you think "oo I'll just pause it so I can go and make myself a coffee"...I have the attention span of a goldfish, and can rarely watch a 2hr 24mins movie without having a break in the middle for coffee, but this movie was non-stop and kept me completly engaged, 100%, from start to finish.

I don't need to tell you that Al Pacino does an awesome job...you already knew that, but Sean Penn and Penelope Ann Miller compliment Pacino's incredble acting skills perfectly.

If you are a fan of gangster/mob films (Scarface, Casino, Goodfella's, The Godfather Trilogy, etc) then you absoultely must see this film, NO gangster film collection can ever be complete without this momentous film.

This film is fully deserving of each and every one of the five stars I've given it!
B000AARKW643A3DY46ZABF4CMQ32006-04-07You're gonna enjoy Carlito's Way...big time!
Carlito's Way is the second collaboration between director Brian DePalma (The Untouchables) and Oscar winning actor Al Pacino (Scent Of A Woman), the first being 1983's cult classic Scarface.

The movie, like Scarface, is about a Latino gangster only this time our main man is Carlito Brigante, a Puerto Rican, who's just been released from prison after serving 5 years. The events of the movie are narrated by Carlito himself as he recalls the last part of his life while he lies dying from gunshot wounds.

Unlike Tony Montana, Carlito, played brilliantly by Pacino, does not want to to be part of the gang life anymore; instead, he wants to get 75,000 dollars and begin a legitimate business and a clean life with his old flame Gail, played by Penelope Ann Miller (Kindergarten Cop). Unfortunately for Carlito, leaving a life of crime is not going to be that easy. The District Attorney is still trying to pin something against him, his corrupt cocaine snorting lawyer David Kleinfeld, played to maximum perfection by Sean Penn (Mystic River), wants to get him involved in potential trouble with a made man, and an up and coming gangster, Benny Blanco from the Bronx, played by John Leguizamo (Empire), is really pissing him off.

The movie has some cool action sequences, especially the pool table scene at the beginning of the movie, and excellent cinematography and direction (the train station chase scene at the end is vividly mesmerizing). But the best that Carlito's Way offers is the intense drama and character study, and Sean Penn's amazing adaptation of a good guy turned crooked and evil. The only flaw in Carlito's Way is the exaggeration of some action sequences (the escalator scene), and unneccesary use of parody (Benny Blanco killing Luis Guzman's character at the end of the movie).

B000AARKW650A2WHGH6FUKQWHS02006-03-20A true classic
This movie says a lot about the talents of Al Pacino and Sean Penn. It's a movie with a great blend of things: crime drama, love story, and a realistic view on life. There's no played out "good guy rides off into the sunset" ending. In reality, criminals end up either in prison or murdered. We label them as outcasts, but they're really people just like us, emotions and all. This movie highlights that. A must see if you haven't yet.

For the crime movie enthusiast, it's a must see movie as well. If you're the type who's seen all the Godfather movies, Goodfellas, Scarface, etc, then you need to check out this one. A guaranteed classic.
B000AARKW650A1HGHTB8Y296HU22006-02-25the bestTHIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES. IT HAS LOVE, CRIME AND AL PACINO. A WINNING COMBO.B000AARKW651A2EBLL2OYEQJN932006-02-20Sublime gangster thriller of a movie with a dead-on performance by Pacino
The plot synopsis for this movie describes how gangster Carlito Brigante is released from jail and vows to go straight, "but old associates and old instincts suck him back into a world of violence and mistrust." Sounds pretty standard, right? Imagine my surprise at finding out that Carlito's Way is a much more complex story, not just about entanglements with the old associates, but about his entire sense of honor and justice, and it is a "good guy" who ends up leading to Carlito's fall from the straight-and-narrow. Even when betrayed by his friends and associates, Carlito maintains his sense of honor and ethics. The audience can't help but identify with Carlito's struggle to go straight, to commit a minimum of bad deeds in pursuit of his dream of escaping the city.
As Carlito, Al Pacino is in top form, playing the character in a straightforward, low-key manner. Sean Penn puts in a terrific performance as the frizzy-haired, coke-addled lawyer who gets in over his head playing in the turf of the Mafia.
Amazon.com essential videoAl Pacino cuts a noble figure in this very enjoyable drama by director Brian De Palma (Scarface), based on a pair of books by Edwin Torres. Pacino plays a Puerto Rican ex-con trying hard to go straight, but his loyalty to his lowlife attorney (a virtually unrecognizable Sean Penn) and enemies on the street make that choice difficult. Penelope Ann Miller plays, somewhat unlikely, a stripper who has a romance with Pacino's character. The film finds De Palma tempering his more outlandish moves (think of Body Double or Snake Eyes) just as he did with the popular Untouchables and Mission: Impossible. But while Carlito's Way was not commercially successful and never rises to the level of greatness, it is a genuinely compelling movie graced with a fine performance by Pacino and a surprising one from Penn. --Tom KeoghB0007VZ9DKCasino (Widescreen 10th Anniversary Edition)B00004XPPBDonnie Brasco (Special Edition)B000ALM4G2Carlito's Way - Rise to Power (Widescreen)B000286RKWGoodfellas (Two-Disc Special Edition)B0006J28KUHeat (Two-Disc Special Edition)163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video411258Aviles, Rick409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video423534Foronjy, Richard422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video433146Leguizamo, John432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video437382Miller, Penelope Ann434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video437526Minucci, Frank434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video438320Mortensen, Viggo434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video440196Ortiz, John439610( O )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video440350Pacino, Al440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video440764Pasdar, Adrian440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video441142Penn, Sean440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video441980Porcel, Jorge440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video442962Rebhorn, James442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video444090Rogers, Ingrid442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video446844Siravo, Joseph444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video460632DePalma, Brian455972( D )403502Directors44261011Stores130DVD139452Video541986Gangsters541980Crime512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles49598011Features130DVD139452Video595058General541980Crime512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video14279381All Universal Studios Titles14279371Universal Studios Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials44261011Stores130DVD139452Video14279421Drama14279371Universal Studios Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials44261011Stores130DVD139452Video14279431Action & Adventure14279371Universal Studios Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials44261011Stores130DVD139452Video2HYYONR0MLU7Ymy movies3TYQG99UHBVKNAl Pacino: Acting Dynamite With Supercharged Intensity3EJOXUEFTP5TXmy favorite flixx 32F2ZAFNKQ8COQGeorge Ghines' ClassicsA1CIAGDJUL56Great Sean Penn Movies25DUDUQOH19INGANGLAND1KWEV4RZJGJWDNo ShelterVI95BN5Z0OZ5Gotta Have Mob Movies1CYBBJ3I00MZLGreatest Dramatic Movies38EINQPYUMHGDfirst 25 of my collectionB0009WFFS6http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=ws%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%253fASIN=B0009WFFS6%2526tag=ws%2526lcode=xm2%2526cID=2025%2526ccmID=165953%2526location=/o/ASIN/B0009WFFS6%25253FSubscriptionId=0SF32ERN5WCAB6FYER02%252526coliid=IKPT4KRGM528O%252526colid=2A94T93EUJ7D7853http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg7553http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg160114http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg500355http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg7553http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg160114http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009WFFS6.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg5003551.77:1NR (Not Rated)DVDMartyn Atkins0603497042128ColorNTSCEnglishOriginal Language2998USD$29.98Warner Strat. Jack is obviously not well. Ginger's kit sounds like an 80's pop band and Eric should just throw away that awful sounding Strat.
Ok we can't have a replica I know.
Eric's choice of notes is just not as good as it used to be. He was way more adventurous back in the day.
No more of the lyrical phrasing, the calm excitement and melodies under extreme pressure. All gone and replaced with just going through the motions.
I hope Jack and Ginger make a buck out of it. They certainly deserve it.

The music died the day Clapton picked up a Stratocaster. He never really bonded with it.
Anyway it looks like a lounge band playing covers. Very polite and laidback and nothing new to say.
B0009WFFS652A2X6QNFUSJJ2PD42006-05-27Cream deserves 6 stars!!!!
Can I be more specific about what these concerts made for my musical inspiration?
It's all about the music, about playing well and bringing it to the people. The production is very good, though spliting it in two DVDs made it impossible to give it the 6 stars as well (fact, the HD and DTS advantages have to take their toll). Sounding great, looking like there really is technology in use today.
Thanks guys, I'll be wearing my DVDs' double layers off.

B0009WFFS6510A3EFRXC8KE6ZOO122006-05-12WONDERFUL!
Bought the Cream 2005 DVD. I recall running home to my digs in 1968 to see the final Cream farewell concert. So, didn`t know what to expect. What a risk they took in 2005...to just appear with basic instruments, no back up musicians, no backing tapes, keyboards etc.. In other words, no safety net!!
The result...OUTSTANDING! A terrific album. The playing is probably better than in ` 68. I love to hear the instruments without the clanging mess that you get from so many modern live bands. And, this was always a `killer` band.
Great moments...for me, ` We`re Going Wrong` ...even better than on Disraeli Gears. Bruce`s mourneful vibrato at its best...Baker`s tom tom effect so apt and Clapton`s lead playing, beautiful yet restrained near the end. One of the finest live pieces ever performed by any band.
`Sunshine of Your Love` really impressed me. I had played this tune to death in the ` sixties but the live version brought back great memories and what a riff to lead into any song...all the other succeeding metal bands were hugely influenced by ` Sunshine`. `Badge` worked really well...I loved the power chord groan before Eric went into the George Harrison guitar passage.
`White Room` was slightly laid back but grew as the tune progressed and sharing the vocals was a good idea...I think Bruce sang it all back in the `60`s?? You knew that he needed to take a few breaks.
A pity that `I Feel Free` was omitted. Most of the tunes were played at a medium pace so it would have been fun to hear a belter like ` I Feel Free`.
Also, it might have been a laugh to hear the boys sing the opening piece, acapello...BA, BA, BA, BA, BA,BA..I FEEL FREE and so on!!
`Crossroads` could have gone at a faster pace...You can do it, lads!!
Anyway, to conclude, one of the very few reunions to really succeed and what a great idea to just play without any gimmicks. Eric said that he knew that they were capable of doing this and how right he was!
Wonderful to have this DVD and how satisfying it all must have been for the three guys involved, and their families.
Hey, there`s no reason they can`t reform every so often to remind us how great they were and are.
WONDERFUL!

B0009WFFS655APR3LIJJ0IB8962006-05-08The Cream Reunion 2005Shopping around the U.S. military base (PX) in Eastern Europe, I saw this DVD, and being a Cream fan I could not resist the temptation to buy it. I was amazed how these three guys sounded after 37 years. Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce they sound just as good or even better! All of their songs are absolutely great. This DVD is one of the best from this British band. I have only one word to describe it "FANTASTIC" If you are from the 60's psychedelic era you will enjoy this video and if not; you will still see what a great band this was. I was so glad to see their reunion, they were one of my favorite bands and still are although they are in their fifties (like me) but they are very good. I still have the original LP "Disraeli Gears"(Vinyl Album) on a frame in my girl friends house; she will keep it until I return from my military duty it's one of my most nostalgic possessions. I hope these guys get together again and record new songs. Buy It!B0009WFFS656A2H4GK4A6LCVYH82006-05-05GREAT DVD
When I first heard of the Cream reunion I thought this will most likely be good. Well it turned out to be GREAT. I have watched this DVD over 10 times last month.

So many of these reunion things are so disappointing, usually people do it for a quick buck and the music is bad. Cream however sound better then ever, 35 + years have really shown in their musical growth. Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were all equally great. When I hear and see Eric, Jack and Ginger play those songs from the past, I can only think of one analogy: Fine Wine - better over time. So much has already been written concerning this great show, and most of it is accurate.

The one thing that was overly apparent to me after viewing this DVD is that Jack Bruce and will forever be lost to the fact that he is a great vocalist/bassist, yet so little of his work is known to the average music fan. Ginger Baker also has a lot of great albums, many sadly out of print, that are truly great. I love this DVD, I wish I could have seen the live show at Albert Hall.
Amazon.comThey step onto the stage of London's Royal Albert Hall: Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton. The capacity crowd, which includes Sean Penn and Jude Law, stands to greet them. Thirty-seven years after their farewell concert, the famously fiery Cream did the unthinkable--they reunited. This double-disc collection (and accompanying CD set) captures highlights from the historic four-day engagement, beginning with a buoyant "I'm So Glad" and ending with a triumphant "Sunshine of Your Love." It would be churlish to suggest that Cream appears exactly as they did in the 1960s (Bruce looks a little frail), but the legendary power trio still has the goods. Bruce is still the essence of soul (a particularly rich vocal on "Politician"), while Baker is as irrepressible as ever (a rare vocal on "Pressed Rat and Warthog," percussive tour-de-force "Toad"). Then there's Clapton, who remains as much a master of the guitar as of understatement. "Thanks for waiting all these years," he quips after a slow-burning "Outside Woman Blues," then adds, "We're going to do every song we know." The track listing is, indeed, generous, despite the absence of such Cream classics as "I Feel Free," "Strange Brew," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses." All told, there are 22 songs plus three alternate takes--and not a bad one in the bunch. --Kathleen C. FennessyDescriptionIn May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.Track Listings: I'm So Glad, Spoonful, Outside Woman Blues, Pressed Rat & Warthog, Sleepy Time Time, N.S.U., Badge, Politician, Sweet Wine, Rollin' & Tumblin', Stormy Monday, Deserted Cities of the Heart, Born Under a Bad Sign, We're Going Wrong, Crossroads, Sitting on Top of the World, White Room, Toad, Sunshine of Your Love, Spoonful (Alternate Takes), Sleepy Time Time (Alternate Takes), Badge (Alternate Takes), Sweet Wine (Alternate Takes), Rollin' & Tumblin', We're Going Wrong, White Room, Sunshine of Your LoveB000ANVQ6ECream - Farewell ConcertB000AYEIZYRoyal Albert Hall: London May 2-3-5-6 2005B000AYQJJ2The Concert for Bangladesh (Limited Deluxe Edition)B000AM6N9UJimi Hendrix - Live at WoodstockB0002Y4T92Crossroads Guitar Festival63779Britain63778British Isles63777Europe33International301668Styles5174Music67203Blues Rock40Rock301668Styles5174Music67206General40Rock301668Styles5174Music67212General67207Hard Rock & Metal301668Styles5174Music67220Psychedelic Rock67204Classic Rock301668Styles5174Music163427General163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video510316General163429Pop163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video554602Clapton, Eric465350Artists163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video557252General163430Rock & Roll163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles49598011Features130DVD139452Video579588General579580United Kingdom284926By Country163313Art House & International404276Genres130DVD139452Video579592Music & Musicals579580United Kingdom284926By Country163313Art House & International404276Genres130DVD139452Video600322Music Video & Concerts515794Warner Home Video468374Studio Specials44261011Stores130DVD139452Video600330All Titles515794Warner Home Video468374Studio Specials44261011Stores130DVD139452Video688646General511462Classic Rock163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video388RSBV4EN8X2*brain vitamins*17OL7GNZ27E8JThe 10 best concert DVD's out of 400 I own2ML5CM3GRXT0YThe Clapton that I love...12CACR0UMHCLX10/2/2005-10/8/20051YRCMDF1NRER6Top Thirteen Rock Concert DVDs Updated Again!3OQIOZ6XDFS7HIf You're Clapton CrazyB0002NUTD8http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=ws%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%253fASIN=B0002NUTD8%2526tag=ws%2526lcode=xm2%2526cID=2025%2526ccmID=165953%2526location=/o/ASIN/B0002NUTD8%25253FSubscriptionId=0SF32ERN5WCAB6FYER02%252526coliid=I3LX6A8XIYMBSX%252526colid=2A94T93EUJ7D713031http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCTHUMBZZZ_.gif7555http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCMZZZZZZZ_.gif160117http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCLZZZZZZZ_.gif350256http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCTHUMBZZZ_.gif7555http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCMZZZZZZZ_.gif160117http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002NUTD8.01-A3JVDWO73DMQMO._SCLZZZZZZZ_.gif350256Black and White PomadeBlack and White PomadeHealth and BeautyBlack and White PomadeBlack and White PomadeBlack and White Pomade 7 oz1095USD$10.95100000Product DescriptionSuggested Retail Price : $ 14.95 The classic best selling pomade in England is now available, after a long absence, in the United States. I never saw it in the theater but I watched it several times on VHS. I enjoyed this film greatly. It is one of my favorites. Elliot and Ross have great chemistry. The ending was solid, and left room for a sequel but I have not heard of one, unless it was released on Beta Max like the fabled Sentinel Sequel. I am a big fan of horror movies from this error where story was more important than gore and dazzle. I give this movie a solid 4 stars it is one of my favorites. Almost forgot about this one. But it may be too slow for everyone.B00023P4U620A3PUJWHJ4WSSZF12005-12-31BoringI bought this movie after reading the rave reviews on this site. I have to say I was highly disappointed. Although the 2 main characters are very likeable and their acting is good, the disco-type music in this so-called scary movie was just annoying. I also found the 'love-scene type' music very inappropriate. The type of music they used just made me hate the movie even more. I was hoping for a 'haunted house' theme in this movie and it just didn't deliver. I will give this movie 2 stars because I liked the 2 main characters. There are no gruesome murders or anything like that in this film.B00023P4U631A3FUBUJAIGM87T12005-06-30Very Interesting and unique horror flick...GREAT acting too!!!
"The Legacy" is an interesting and unique horror flick that takes place in England. Sam Elliot and Katherine Ross star in this flick and do a fine job with their respective roles. The plot involves a young lady who has a job possibility in England and she talks her boyfriend into going abroad for the fun of it if nothing else. Well, they don't have a hell of a lot of fun, but Ms. Walsh does inherit a gift of sorts, if you can call it that...I won't say anymore as that would ruin the plot, but there is a hole or two in this plot that you will probably pick up on, but "The Legacy" is still quite effective with its essential purpose as a supernatural evil horror flick.

The couple have a bike accident and a strange man takes them to his house so they can wait to get their bike fixed. However, Pete and Katherine find it very difficult to leave the house and foul play is afoot as the other guests begin to die one by one. The death scenes are strong and interesting...I was impressed with how imaginitive these scenes actually were.

Basically, the couple must find a way to leave this "evil" house, but will they be able to do it? This movie also fashions a "who dunnit" like mystery although it is quite easy to determine who the killer is. Still, the movie is very imaginitvie and creative. Also, "The Legacy" sports a great score to present the mood and theme of the horror quite well.

Overall, "The Legacy" isn't really scary but there are some creepy elements to it...the atmosphere is chilling and the incredibly evil power behind the deaths of these guests provides the audience with a plausible and genuine supernatural villain that inspires a small degree of terror in the audience.

"The Legacy" is a nice little chiller with a good plot and very good acting. I was very impressed with both Ross and Elliot in this movie...they really make it work very nicely. Also, the woman that played "Adams" does a great job and she is very creepy as "the nurse" with a cat like demeanor. Adams is thoroughly evil and unstoppable...she's a real treat to watch and adds a lot to the movie in my opinion.

I give "The Legacy" THREE STARS as a horror flick and while it is not too scary, it really does present supernatural evil to the audience in the "right way" that allows for a convincing and credible horror movie. "The Legacy" is about the legacy of satan's power and that is an interesting idea, BUT that being said, the plot fails to explain how this legacy was able to come about...still, the movie is quite entertaining as long as you don't over scrutinize the obvious holes in the plot. Also, there are some good kills in this movie.

All and all, "The Legacy" is a pretty good little horror flick...I just wish that it was scarier and that more was explained. Ultimately, I think this movie would have worked better and would have been more credible to the sophisticated horror movie fan if the inheritance was a demon's power and not that of satan himself.

The transfer of this movie to DVD is very well done and the audio is average.
B00023P4U6410A3KMTOFTUUNFHG112004-09-30Sam Elliot and Katharine Ross - Legacy of their Own
This is a pretty original 70s horror movie starring two very likeable and attractive stars of the era - Katharine Ross and Sam Elliot. It's just fun, not really all THAT scary or even too tense. Basically Sam and Katharine end up unwilling guests in a spooky mansion where the guests are dropping off like flies while waiting for an old spooky man to pass away and leave them an inheritance. Roger Daltry makes an appearance. The deaths are all way over the top, and it's just fun.

DVD is the movie plus a trailer. That's about it, but the transfer is great considering the age of the movie. Great spooky flick for a cold night by the fire.
B00023P4U6511A1RLUEM3PKB9P3122004-09-20I'm sorry, but this is a great movie!
Granted, it's no "Gone With The Wind" but this stylish thriller is both enjoyable and scary. I'm just glad it's finally come to DVD!

I won't get too much into the plot but it's basically a Satanic/Supernatural/Big Old English Mansion movie with a whodunnit twist. (with some very imaginative ways of people getting killed!) The film is very nicely shot, with a great music score, (sometimes a bit campy, but it was the 70's after all) and sports a great cast. The story isn't what I'd call original, but basically it's a QUALITY movie, not a cheesy slasher flick... I think this movie has stood the test of time quite well (Except for Sam's haircut and 'stache maybe!) and would still hold up today.

Just seeing how Sam Elliot deals with England and it's natives (with his famous country-western demeanor) makes it worth watching!

Although there's very little in the extras department (besides a VERY dated trailer) the Audio and Video quality are very nice. I highly recommend this DVD!

This is one film I wanted to see for a very long time. I heard it was a slasher film as slasher films now a days suck like hell, but this was made before Halloween and Friday the 13th, which kept me interested. It took me a long time to find it, but when I did I could see that this is more than your average slasher.

The film is based around Christmas. Sorority girls are planning to take a holiday break. But a stranger who makes frightning phone calls leads to a more psychotic event that night.

We are introduced to the killer through first person perspective as this is the way we always see him. This isnt your typical slasher movie with typical hack'n'slash death scenes of blood and gore but instead gives us a great amount of dark eerie events of intense psychological horror within these killings. Again, another horror film that shows horror doesn't require bloodshed.

Although Black Christmas doesn't exactly contain truly terrifying scenes but instead contains a great creepy effect of silence throughout the sorority house and with probably the most creepy annonymous phone calls ever in a film. The tension and eerieness builds up brilliantly with great replacements of light, shadow and sound, leaving us to the end, with a creepy essence of dark atmosphere, with some things unanswered.

And while Black Christmas contains no cheap attempts of modern day jump frights, this is a great horror film of its kind. Totally recommended.

B00005R1N350A1XX1KKXH9W7I702006-06-21True horror and not a poor imitationIn a time when the average horror movie is a bad remake of a classic, based on a video game or just a pathetic excuse to indulge in special effects, films like "Black Christmas" makes one realize that horror doesn't mean graphic, too clever for words or necessarily outlandish tactics. Films such as this one, "Halloween" and countless other great horror flicks are effective primarily because they take the every day and fill it with an unnerving sense of terror and vulnerability. I saw this baby back in when it was first released and it scared me as much today as it did back in `74. The killer inside the house premise that was explored with equal success in the fantastic "When a Stranger Calls" (the original) is so terrifying because unlike "When a Stranger..." in the end, he is never caught but rather is still lurking somewhere inside the house, waiting. Most people consider their homes a sanctuary and what is more unsettling than knowing that it no longer is, that unbeknownst to you it has, in fact, become a death trap and that with every passing minute peril inches closer? This fantastic example of modern horror relies, like most of the fine films that emerged during the horror heydays of the 70's and early 80's, on tension, atmosphere, ingenious use of sound and silence, light and shadow. I don't scare easily and having seen all of the "great" horror movies, I still count this one among the creepiest and unsettling. BTW - everyone was great with Margot Kidder having a seemingly great time as the foul-mouthed, tough talking, hard driking sorority girl. Olivia Hussey in the more demure and complex role was equally good. It's a very well made little gem and it shouldn't be overlooked if you love horror. Don't pay too much notice to those nay sayers below, because "Black Christmas" is true horror and not that visual and sonic schlock that tries to pass for it nowadays. If you were born in the age of excess (post-1975), chances are that you wouldn't know good horror if it bit you on the rump.B00005R1N351A1BGOJPZ5U9ULJ22006-06-06ah christmasi must point out the fact that i am a fan of gore and it has been a long time since i have seen a horror film with very little if any gore. this movie was well done, its scare the heck out of ya in a very subtle way. and their is maybe and ounce or two of blood through out the whole film. a classic amongst classicsB00005R1N344A34VV92TSLC37R62006-05-05The first slasher flick
Most people look to Halloween when looking for a landmark film that started the slasher subgenre of horror. I did for quite a while, and, don't get me wrong, Halloween is a classic of massive proportions. However, Black Christmas is somehow constantly overlooked. Even I, a devoted horror fan, had somehow never seen this movie, even though I claim to be an expert on all things horror cinema.

After finally watching this film, I am not disappointed at all, and it frustrates me even more that it can be so ignored by most horror fans. The plot of Black Christmas is really simple: a group of sorority sisters are getting ready to all head home for Christmas break, and on the last night together on campus, they start to receive weird, disturbing, perverted phone calls. Soon after the film starts, we are introduced to the killer through a first-person view as he climbs into the attic. The film starts out fairly slow and unfocused. We are introduced to a few characters who seem as if they are going to be important but never really pan out. Once the film "slims down" its cast, it gains much more tension and ability to actually scare the viewer. Jess, the main character, is actually a pretty good actress, and, while she does buy into some stupid horror cliches, she is a very believable and sympathetic character that we have to root for.

The film obviously wasn't trying to win any awards for screenplay or acting, but the film succeeds on almost every level that a horror movie strives for. It achieves a large amount of tension, a good number of genuine scares, and it makes the viewer grit their teeth even though it avoids most gore throughout the entire film. While the film may feel a little choppy, and it seems like it doesn't make very good use out of its limited run time, you have to give it major credit for being the first movie to jump into this genre and do it without fear. Any horror fan will greatly appreciate this film.
B00005R1N341A1FCWRSICTO2AH12006-04-29It still scares you"Black Christmas"is one of those handful of movies that inspire imitators galore. By today's standards, it seems a bit dated and not all that graphic - since most of the violence takes place off screen. But what it does have - psychological suspense, it has in spades. Those phone calls! They are disturbing to hear today as they were to listen to years ago when "Black Christmas" was first released. The rage and violence of the killer's voice is so explosive, so disturbing, that it elevates the typical formula of the movie (sorority house, isolated chicks being picked off by a psycho killer, clumsy cops) into the genuine "cult" zone. "Black Christmas"deserves its reputation not so much because of anything new or groundbreaking as far as thrillers go - but because it remembers the one thing you need in such a movie (with all its limitations): a truly frightening killer. It's not a far leap to imagine that the guy screaming into the phone is Ted Bundy - and THAT is scarey. Amazon.comYou may never have heard of this neglected 1974 gem, but you've probably seen one of its many imitators. Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder (also look for Andrea Martin of SCTV fame) star as two residents of a sorority house that is emptying out as Christmas approaches. The atmosphere is jolly and carefree, except for an ongoing series of menacing telephone calls, and, oh yes, we've just seen someone climb into the attic with apparent ill intent. Kidder does some scene-stealing as the bad girl, Hussey illustrates one of the downsides to having beautiful long '70s hair, and Keir Dullea does a nice turn as the creepy boyfriend. Director Robert Clark knows that the unseen is far scarier than what can be seen and he ratchets up the tension beautifully, making good use of ominous shadows, and putting in nice touches like replacing the sound of a distraught woman's scream with the piercing ring of yet another ominous phone call. This is a terrific, well-made little movie that is genuinely sleep-with-the-lights-on scary. Don't miss it. --Ali DavisDescriptionTwas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, a creature was stirring...In Bedford, several unsuspecting people are about to receive Season’s Greetings - of terror! Frank LaLoggia directs and writes this ghost story and murder mystery with light humor and a nostalgic touch. It's 1962 in Willowpoint Falls, and in the opening montage, he introduces us to the small town during Halloween, and to the Scarlatti family's eccentricities. Told as a flashback by the older Frankie Scarlatti (played by LaLoggia), we see the story lightly filtered through his memories as the sensitive young Frankie (played by the big eyed and big eared Lukas Haas) let's two bully boys trick him into getting locked into the classroom's foreboding cloakroom. All alone, and a stone's throw away from a cemetery to boot, Frankie soon falls asleep on the top shelf of the closet, by the window. An in-camera time lapse shot, done through the half-moon window of the cloakroom looking onto the cemetery, reminded me of a similar effect used in Hammer's Dracula, where the sunlight rapidly fades to darkness as seen through the tomb's window. Darkness is not a good thing when facing vampires or when locked in ominous cloakrooms on Halloween night, to be sure.

When 10 o'clock rolls around, it's quiet, darker still, and also time for the murder mystery and ghost story to begin. Right off the bat I can identify with Frankie: he's wearing a black cape and a Bela Lugosi mask. In a later scene in his bedroom, he also has the Aurora monster model kits displayed in all their magnificence.

An eerie reenactment begins as Frankie wakes up from a bad dream involving his dead mother. A cold blast of air enters the room, along with the ghost of a little girl, laughing and playing. An interesting touch here is that this is not an atmospheric haunting, where events merely play over and over again, but the ghost of the little girl responds to Frankie's presence in the room. She seems as startled to see him as he is to see her. But events must play out, and soon she is callously murdered by a shadowy adult figure. Using a black screen process to create the transparent apparition of the girl, the scene is a harsh contrast to the lighter tone presented earlier in the movie, and sets up the next, more violent scene, where young Frankie finds himself in the unenviable position of sitting on the top shelf of the cloakroom when the real child-killer enters, looking for something that dropped into the floor grate when he had strangled the girl some time before.

The killer soon realizes he is not alone, and shines his flashlight onto the small black caped form, wearing the Bela Lugosi mask, sitting in the corner of the top shelf. Frankie tries to escape, but quickly has the life nearly choked out of him. An effective out of body experience has Frankie meet Melissa Ann, the ghost of the little girl so cruelly murdered long ago. He finds out she is trying to find her mom. Frankie is brought back to consciousness, and he is soon delving deeper into this mystery.

True to form for the sixties, the school janitor, an African-American, is found drunk in the basement and is blamed for the attempted murder of Frankie and the murders of 11 other children, including Melissa Ann, who was the first victim. Reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird, the film maintains a good balance between the fanciful--Frankie's adventure with the ghostly Melissa Ann, the blue-lit night scenes in the fairy tale stylized woods, and his coming of age, and the true-to-life painful loss of his mom, the bigotry and pain of loss that eventually lead to murder perpetrated by a grieving parent, and the loss of someone close to him by finding out that person is not who he seemed to be. This theme of loss is borne also by the ghostly Melissa Ann, who is looking for her mother, the ghost of her mother, who is looking for Melissa Ann, and one sister mourning the loss of another.

LaLoggia, who, oddly enough, grew up in an urban environment, creates a charming small town nostalgia, and through the use of carefully controlled colors and lighting, brings the hues of Autumn inside to his interior scenes. The pharmacy window decorated for Halloween, and the classroom scene where Frankie reads his monster story to the class, is awash with shades of orange, yellow and the various colors of crisp Autumn leaves. In stark contrast, he uses reds and blues to denote the darker side of this story, and effectively uses dimmer panels to bring the light down or up to transition between important story points in the scene. The overall mood of the film moves from charming to alarming, and back to charming as the story unfolds to its incendiary ending atop the cliffs by the white cottage. LaLoggia's simple, old-time approach using in-camera effects combined with basic process shots enhances the story.

All in all, a wonderfully paced ghost story and moral tale.
630510695932A1B9X5KAJ8DX3932006-01-10Home of the LegendThe movie was OK, but us local residents were dissapointed. I am from Rochester, NY the birthplace of the Lady in White Legend. While I am unsure of the exact legend, I believe it goes something like this: A woman awoke one night to find her daughter missing, so she put on her robe and went searching for the daughter. Apparently, the daughter had sleepwalked and fell off a cliff overlooking Lake Ontario. Other versions state that two farmers raped and murdered the girl. After discovering the daughters body, the mother went crazy and went out every night in search of her "lost" daughter. Eventually, she commited suicide by throwing herself down into the waters. Her spirit continues to wander between her old home and the cliff. I don't know how much is urban legend. I know the movie was inspired by reported sightings of the ghostly image.Down in Durand-Eastman park there is the foundation of an old cottage, known around here as White Lady's Castle. While it may have been her home, I don't recall there being any cliffs over-looking the lake down there. My friends and I went down to the location one night expecting a creepy time, and instead we found a bunch of teenagers hanging out smoking dope and drinking. No wonder they saw ghosts. For more info check out this link http://www.americanfolklore.net/folktales/ny6.htmlAmazon.comAn impressive labor of love from independent writer-director Frank LaLoggia, this low-budget supernatural thriller was a sleeper hit in 1988, deservedly praised by critics and horror fans for its effective combination of ghostly terror and small-town charm. The influence of Steven Spielberg can be felt in the movie's imaginative scenario, but it's also got the affectionate appeal of autobiographical nostalgia, mixing details of LaLoggia's own youth in upstate New York with a frightening tale of Halloween horror. It begins when young Frankie (Lukas Haas) is locked in a grade-school cloakroom on Halloween night of 1962; he witnesses the ghostly image of a little girl and is nearly strangled to death by an unknown assailant. From that point forward, Frankie is convinced that the ghost is somehow connected to the Lady in White, a haunting vision of local legend. A black janitor is tried as Frankie's attacker and suspected in a series of unsolved murders, but recurring apparitions lead Frankie to the truth of the case--a revelation of real-life violence and supernatural wonders. This plot may be a bit too cluttered for a conventional ghost story, but the movie's ambition works in its favor by providing an emotional subtext for its youthful sense of wonder. There's an abundance of charm and humor, but this also a moving story of grief and loss, tracing young Frankie's adjustment to the death of his mother. This gives Lady in White more depth than is typical for horror thrillers, and the movie further benefits from the obvious care and compassion that LaLoggia brought to its creation. --Jeff ShannonB0009X75ECThe Innocents0783116926The ChangelingB00023P4TMGhost StoryB000ALM4MQThe Little Girl Who Lives Down the LaneB00009NHB6The Haunting163407General163396Horror404276Genres130DVD139452Video163411Suspense512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video163413Thrillers512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video292305Ghosts163412Things That Go Bump163396Horror404276Genres130DVD139452Video413892Bower, Tom411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video416568Cariou, Len416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video426376Haas, Lukas426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video427582Helmond, Katherine426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video432678Lassick, Sydney432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video442190Presson, Jason440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video443976Rocco, Alex442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video444668Rushton, Jared442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses44261011Stores130DVD139452Video579534( L )579510Titles49598011Features130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video15MZZ1Q0ALTDDMy All Time Favorite Movie and Television Mysteries2BFYEB1HYUK5QFun Horror Films You Might ofXUOJ1DT39DSNgreat halloween fun15RQQTPEINEU7Best Haunted Houses Movies331JQZA7YOGUGHorror movies I want to see Part 2SVVBWEXJCP8ZGreat Horror Films2DO5108A6SB5GGhost Stories31T4FZA5PZ3SGSpooky Tales27LIKGXE5FHVCUncle John's Favorite HORROR/FANTASY/SCI-FI2RW4AH4H0L081Ultimate Halloween Flix!B0006VHVK0http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=ws%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%253fASIN=B0006VHVK0%2526tag=ws%2526lcode=xm2%2526cID=2025%2526ccmID=165953%2526location=/o/ASIN/B0006VHVK0%25253FSubscriptionId=0SF32ERN5WCAB6FYER02%252526coliid=I3AOEHOIPQDCVK%252526colid=2A94T93EUJ7D715664http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg6375http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg135160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg422500http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg6375http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg135160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg422500http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT04._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg3175http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT04._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg66160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT04._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg207500http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT01._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg3175http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg66160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg207500http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT02._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg3175http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT02._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg66160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT02._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg207500http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT03._SCTHUMBZZZ_.jpg3175http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT03._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg66160http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006VHVK0.01.PT03._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg207500ElectronicsZalman USA0823884077001Large, 120 mm fan maximizes cooling by providing exceptional airflow over a large areaWorks with Intel Pentium 4 Socket 775/478Works with AMD Sempron/AMD64 Socket 754/939/940Generates no noise or vibration in silent modePure-copper base material ensures excellent heat dissipation2003999USD$39.99ZalmanCNPS7700-CuCNPS7700-Cu1283111822512CEZalmannv:Fan Type^CPU Fan|Socket Type^775|Socket Type^939|Socket Type^754|Socket Type^940|Socket Type^478|Noise Level^32 dBA|Heatsink Material^Copper|Bearing Type^Dual BallZalmanZalman CNPS7700-Cu Cooler for Intel/AMD Motherboards and CPUs (Pure Copper)8238840770013900USD$39.001200011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewfpDeuL2WNqvWFI8n03qxRuVb5%2Bp5WZBCFf85nR39TaUQDoqFILUGMJ6EdooceL9XxAjLLU5Kh2M%3D5498USD$54.98Usually ships in 24 hours14.5143B0006VHVK0510AD0J5KK4WQXNS102006-04-25Replace your generic heatsink with the big Zalman heatsink fan silent cooler comboThis is very big. It will be like a big wheel that will take up about a quarter of the size of your motherboard (mobo) with your central processing unit (cpu; processor) at its centre. It looks small in the picture but the unit is 136mm in diameter (5.35") and probably the biggest component in your computer next to the mobo and power supply unit (psu). To top it off it requires a full dismantling of the system to install because of a back support plate that goes onto the rear of the mobo. The fan inside the spreading metal heatsink is 120mm fan that can run at around 2000 RPM max creating 32 dB but there is a controller with the unit, called a Fan Mate 2, that allows you to control the speed of the fan and so decrease the noise. Apart from its enormous size the unit weighs in at a whopping 2.7 lbs which is 0.7 lbs heavier than the Zalman USA CNPS7000B-AlCu CPU Fan. So maybe you might want to check out the other model instead unless you are really interested in overclocking cooling, but still this product is not really designed for overclocking so the risk is your own. Given that the cooler is so big they have gone to great lengths to create a very harsh to install support frame that will test a novice who may want to consider getting a professional to install it unless you are happy taking out your mobo. You should also double check that this Zalman heatsink supports your mobo as they have dropped support for certain types of mobos. So check before you buy. Installing the actual heatsink is not such a big deal as the parts are very well designed but it does require that you have front and back access to your mobo. You may also find this to be a bit of a squeeze with your PSU unit so again maybe doing some measurements before you buy is a good idea. I found zero clearance between my PSU and the cooler. It literally just breezed against it. The unit is a silent solution not an overclocking solution even though it can be used with overclocking. For those looking to create a cooler, less noisy computer, the Zalman will replace that noisy generic heatsink with a silent one. Your system will also be a little cooler, but not a whole pile, and in some cases there will be no discernable drop in temperature. It is the quietest air-based CPU cooler on the market. That is what is was designed for and that is exactly what it does. If you can't sleep because your computer sounds loud then this will probably help you get some extra forty winks. You may have to disable the generic case fan to hear the silence and of course hard drive activity will play a part in noise, but as for getting rid of a major noise culprit - the generic heatsink, this Zalman is the best around. Just get it, install it, or find someone who can. It is worth it.B0006VHVK021A1PS6RWSTIG89312006-03-01Get the copper and aluminum version instead.
This CPU cooler cools better and is quieter than most others on the market. Regrettably, it greatly exceeds Intel's recommendations for maximum weight. The aluminum and copper version, which conforms to Intel's guidelines, cools very nearly as well. It is also less expensive. Buy it instead.

Also, Zalman's list of incompatible motherboards is incomplete. It did not list MSI's 865PE Neo2-P motherboard. It may not list others. Beware of motherboards with Northbridge heatsinks mounted at a forty-five degree angle.
B0006VHVK050A6RZAO4697IMH02006-02-27Extreme improvement over OEM Intell Cooling fan/heatsink
This is the ultimate cooling option over OEM (orriginal equipment manufacturer) supplied fan/sink. It is very quiet, great cooling improvement over all, it cools down RAM and motherboard much better, great for overclocking. Highly recommended. I purchased it mainly for noise cancelation. My processor:Intell P4 2.8GHz HT.
Best cooling option prior liquid cooling system.
I really enjoy my computer-silent power. Pytas

B0006VHVK040A17ELICPZWATTS12006-01-19Great cooling, quiet, but installation was problematic
Got this cooler to replace my stock P4 Fan Cooling Unit, which was incredibly loud, so I could record sound/ music in the same room as the computer with sensitive and omnidirectional mics. Problem solved. This thing is incredibly quiet and, even at lowest fan speed, has cooled idle temps. by 8-10 degrees celsius and load by about 8-10 degrees celsius as well.

Along the way, I had some trouble with installation on my Socket 478 processor mount. First, as someone else here mentioned, the "L-type brackets" which you are supposed to screw on to some included mounts sat about 3/4" too high to be screwed in. And, even though my motherboard is listed as compatible, the unit ran over the edge of the board and was contacting the power supply. So I called Zalman tech support (NO WAIT! NO MESSAGES! BEST TECH SUPPORT EVER!), who told me that in both cases, I should just bend the metal-- bend the copper fins back so that there wasn't any overlap, and bend the wings on which the L brackets sat so they'd be closed to the screw holes. And it worked. So if this happens to you, just don't be afraid to bend the stuff around until it fits.

My only other complaint is that in order to put your fan mate II, which controls the speed of the fcu fan, on the exterior of your case you must have an empty PCI slot or get pretty creative with routing the cable through some tiny hole on the back of your case. I just mounted mine to the ceiling on the inside of my case.

All in all, I'm really happy with this unit. I'm, in fact, going to get a zalman copper cooler for my vga card so I can lower noise even more.
B0006VHVK051A2VK2U4MKL2EKL12005-10-26Zalman quiets the leaf blower on the Dell 8400
My sons computer was so loud that we referred to it as the leaf blower. We assumed that his fan had gone bad (bearing) but found on line that an extremely loud fan was a feature of his Dell dimension 8400. We also found a web site from someone in England that had replaced his Dell cooling tower with the Zalman and had fabulous results. He detailed how to modify the brackets and we had to buy a power cable converter.
The results have been astrounding. The Zalman keeps the CPU so cool that the stock Delta fan never goes above its lowest speed and therefore is very quiet. And the Zalman makes almost no noise.
We are quite happy with the result.
