Project SINS

The SINS subproject within the former section Software Engineering has resulted in the promotion of Bastiaan Schönhage. (See below.) The theme of the subproject concerned the use of animations and visualisation to display business process simulation results in a hypermedia context. During the project the focus shifted towards visualisation, in particular business visualisation. In Bastiaan thesis several case studies can be found illustrating the use of visualisation to support business processes and in particular decision making processes.

Promotion Bastiaan Schonhage

Supervisors: Prof. Dr J.C. van Vliet & Dr A. Eliëns.

The title of Bastiaans Ph.D. thesis is:

Diva: Architectural Perspectives on Information Visualization

The goal of the Diva (Distributed Visualization Architecture) project is to develop a distributed software architecture for interactive visualization of dynamic information. To support multiple users with different information requirements, the architecture supports multiple perspectives/views on the information. Additionally, simulations are included as dynamic sources of data and information. To improve the usability of visualization, user-interaction and user-collaboration are integrated into the architecture.

To illustrate the architecture, several prototype implementations have been built allowing multiple users to visualize (in 2D and in 3D) data coming from shared databases and simulations.
