I'm Associate Professor in Mathematical Biology, and current programme director of the Master Mathematics. I am a member of the Amsterdam Center for Dynamics and Computation.
I am a mathematical biologist with interests ranging from systems biology and microbial physiology and ecology to behavioural ecology, ornithology and epidemiology. I have been actively collaborating with Joost Hulshof, and with Frank Bruggeman and Bas Teusink from the Systems Biology Lab at the VU, to understand how microbes deal with changes in their environment, achieve high growth rates by choosing the appropriate pathways, tune enzyme levels, deal with stochasticity and so on.
